About Rolling Library

***ABSOLUTELY ZERO GENERATIVE AI WAS USED TO CREATE THIS WEBSITE***

I wrote every word (or copy-pasted it from the publisher), drag-and-dropped every item of data, and found all the media through basic Google alone. Colours and logo by Hey Mabel Design.

Why does this website exist?

I watched Whip It when I was a tween and thought wow, I would so do that if I lived in America. I had no idea that at that moment, roller derby leagues were getting started in Australia.

In my later teens, it kept coming up in comic books I was reading. I was obsessed with 'Lumberjanes' and would re-read the derby chapter more than any other. As I read more from Boom Comics, I came across 'Slam!' and loved that too. Australian roller derby leagues had truly formed by this point, and I was still completely unaware.

I wanted to create a database that had as many forms of derby in media as exists. Partially to track the cultural changes over time, but mostly so people have a wide variety of age targets and genres if they want to casually introduce their friends to the sport. Or have more mediums to indulge your own obsession.
